This is an appeal from judgments of conviction and sentence on a consolidated trial before a jury of seven cases, in which three of the indictments charged defendant with forgery in the second degree and each of the four other indictments charged him with criminal possession of a forged instrument. The indictments were returned on May 17, 1983, and the defendant was tried on all seven cases on February 7, 1984. Four issues are presented on appeal. I. By appell
